20% names in Delhi at risk of deletion as SIR deadline nears

Nearly 20% of names on Delhi's old electoral roll face deletion as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) deadline nears, according to officials.

Booth level officers (BLOs) visit electors' residences at least three times; if no response, they leave forms and notices warning of possible deletion, but neighbors often tear them away.

As of Monday evening, only about 9 million of 14.5 million electors' enumeration forms (62.02%) had been digitised, though forms were distributed to virtually all electors.

The SIR deadline was extended to August 8 from July 29, with a meeting on Tuesday to decide on requesting another extension.

Many electors face deletion because they have migrated to other cities or states or changed residences within Delhi without updating voter details.
