Karnataka high court stays proceedings against law student over tweet

Karnataka high court stayed investigation in two criminal cases against law student K Kiran over a tweet about a daylight killing.

Justice M Nagaprasanna noted the first part of the tweet had no express reference to any religion, community, caste, or identifiable group.

The court said criminality cannot be inferred by imagination when the words do not yield such meaning.

The second part of the tweet was a comment on government action, and the essential ingredients to attract the Act were absent.
