Spotlight less on medal winners as convocations undergo change

At Lucknow University's three-hour convocation, only 15 of 111 medal winners received medals on stage; the rest were dismissed in 10 minutes.

Medal winners were called at 7am before the ceremony and received medals from the vice chancellor, not the governor, unlike previous years.

Anshika Singh, a nine-medal winner preparing for civil services, expressed disappointment that medallists were not given pride of place.

Shikhar Bharti, an LLB student with nine medals, said last year's event was grander and this year's lacked the chancellor's presence.

The change follows a pattern prescribed by Jan Bhavan, with speeches and schoolchildren's songs getting more time than medal presentations.
