Tata Motors pips M&M to regain No 2 ranking

Tata Motors sold nearly 1.9 lakh passenger vehicles in Q1 2026, overtaking Mahindra & Mahindra to regain the No. 2 position in India's passenger vehicle market.

India's domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 25.9% year-on-year to a record 12.7 lakh units in April-June 2026, driven by SUV demand and lower financing costs.

Maruti Suzuki retained the top spot with 5.3 lakh units, while Hyundai Motor India held fourth place with nearly 1.4 lakh units.

Tata Motors' models Punch and Nexon anchored sales in the compact SUV segment, and utility vehicle sales jumped to 1.5 lakh units.
