US senators propose tariffs up to 100% on top Russian oil buyers

in5points
A bipartisan group of US senators proposed a new sanctions bill on July 15, 2026, imposing tariffs up to 100% on exports from India, China, Slovakia, Hungary, and Azerbaijan for purchasing Russian oil.
The bill is a softened version of the Sanctioning Russia Act introduced in April 2025 (which proposed tariffs up to 500%), and could be passed before August 2026.
The US Trade Representative would determine the exact tariff rate for each country.
