Karnataka plans beach-wise tourism master plans, eyes more Blue Flag beaches
in5points
Karnataka plans customised tourism master plans for every beach where development is permitted under Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms.
The state aims to create more Blue Flag-standard destinations, with three certified beaches already: Padubidri, Kasarkod, and Tannirbhavi.
Tourism minister K J George directed officials to assess each beach for strengths, infrastructure gaps, and investment potential.
The initiative is Karnataka's first systematic effort to evaluate its 320-km coastline for beach tourism, marine adventure, and eco-tourism.
Assessments will consider road connectivity, environmental sensitivity, and local employment generation to guide development.
