76% of citizens back penalties for driver app taxi ride cancellations

% of respondents in a nationwide survey by LocalCircles India Pvt Ltd support penalties for app-based taxi drivers who cancel confirmed rides.

Under the Maharashtra Aggregator Cabs Policy 2025, drivers who cancel without valid reason pay 10% of the fare or ₹100, whichever is lower.

The penalty increases to 50% of the fare for trips to airports, railway stations, and hospitals; surge pricing is capped at 1.5 times the base fare.

The survey, conducted June–July 2026, received over 22,000 responses from 288 districts in India.

LocalCircles founder Sachin Taparia plans to escalate the findings to chief secretaries of major states to encourage similar regulations.
