Anbumani says Mekedatu dam would block Cauvery flows to TN

  1. PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss said the proposed Mekedatu reservoir would block Cauvery flows to Tamil Nadu, preventing any water from reaching the state.

  2. Anbumani urged the Tamil Nadu government to firmly oppose Karnataka's attempts to implement the Mekedatu project and called for a unified action plan with political parties and farmers' associations.

  3. He alleged Karnataka's water releases from Kabini reservoir to Cauvery were erratic, citing a reduction from 25,000 to 10,000 cusecs, then a rise to 14,958 cusecs.

  4. He said Karnataka's four major reservoirs held 74.05 TMC of water (64% of capacity) and could easily release Tamil Nadu's share, but was instead diverting water from Harangi to KRS reservoir.

  5. Anbumani claimed the Mekedatu dam, located downstream of Karnataka's major reservoirs, would impound surplus water from Kabini, Harangi, and Hemavathi, making it impossible for water to reach Tamil Nadu.
