Bombay High Court upheld an interim arbitral award of ₹14.15 crore to heirs of landowner Dinshaw Cawasji Doongriwalla for land acquired in 1951.
The land in Majiwada, Thane (1113.2 sq m) was acquired by BMC to build a protective wall along the Tansa pipeline.
The court dismissed BMC's plea, noting the collector's award was passed 75 years ago and landowners were yet to be paid.
The interim award (Feb 15, 2023) was based on BMC's statement of defence at ₹28,500 per sq m, under LARR Act 2013.
The arbitrator was appointed in 2014 after disputes; earlier award was modified by HC to calculate compensation from July 7, 2014.
