2 children die of cerebral malaria in Chhattisgarh, 5 hospitalised

Two children died of cerebral malaria in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district.

Five others are undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Hospital.

Cerebral malaria is a severe neurological complication caused by Plasmodium falciparum infection, leading to coma or death if untreated.

Health department intensified malaria screening in villages, tribal residential schools, and hostels after the deaths.

Chief Medical Officer RC Thakur confirmed the deaths of 8-year-old Kareena Vishwakarma and 9-year-old Subhash Kumeti on July 25 and 26, 2026, respectively.
