Heavy rainfall batters south, central Gujarat; ‘red alert’ in 13 districts

Heavy rain in south and central Gujarat forced evacuation of over 5,100 people.

The Gujarat government placed 13 districts under red alert, including Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara.

NDRF, SDRF, and army teams were deployed; 17 NDRF teams, 33 SDRF platoons, and six army columns in total.

Navsari recorded the highest evacuations (2,082), followed by Tapi (1,245) and Surat (1,221).

Umarpada in Surat received the highest rainfall at 203mm between 6am and 12noon.
