Six barn owlets were discovered nesting at Moor Farm near Peterborough, providing a morale boost after the farm suffered six suspected arson attacks this summer.

The owlets, estimated at 40 to 50 days old, were ringed on July 23, 2026, by volunteer Simon Dudhill as part of the Peterborough City Council's barn owl recovery scheme.

The brood of six is the largest Dudhill has encountered this year, and he has ringed over 260 owlets across Cambridgeshire in 2026 for the British Trust for Ornithology.

Moor Farm owner Judith Jacobs actively encourages wildlife on the farm and expressed relief and excitement at the owlets' arrival.

The ring numbers will help track migration routes, survival rates, and habitat effectiveness, feeding into conservation measures.
