Hamirpur: Man plots wife’s murder, stages accident for ₹40 lakh insurance

A 35-year-old woman, Rita, was murdered in a staged road accident in Hamirpur on July 29 near Pauthiya village.

Her husband Amar Singh and three friends, Amit Gupta, Pushendra Soni, and Abhay Singh, allegedly killed her to claim a ₹40 lakh life insurance policy from Axis Max Life Insurance.

The accused allegedly knocked Rita down with a car, then ran over her twice to make it look like an accident.

Rita's father, Sarvesh Gupta, lodged an FIR on July 31; police arrested all four accused and recovered the car used in the crime.

The insurance policy was purchased in Rita's name around two months before the murder, with a first premium of ₹2.60 lakh paid by Singh.
