Mumbai: BMCs ₹2.46-Crore Savarkar Market Repair Proposal Deferred Amid Calls For Civic Market Redevelopment

BMC's Rs 2.46-crore proposal to repair Savarkar Market in Dadar was deferred by Standing Committee Chairman Prabhakar Shinde.

Standing Committee members demanded a long-term redevelopment policy for ageing civic markets rather than repeated repairs.

Members advocated multi-storey redevelopment with additional Floor Space Index (FSI) to improve facilities, create parking, and generate revenue.

MNS group leader Yashwant Killedar criticized the proposal for lacking key details and demanded a joint site visit and inspection report.

Leader of the House Ganesh Khankar said municipal markets could be transformed into modern facilities and generate additional revenue through redevelopment.
