More than 4,000 Kenyan students came together to plant mangroves in a bid to set a Guinness World Record

Over 4,000 Kenyan students gathered at Jomvu Kuu Mangrove Site in Mombasa County to attempt a Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous mangrove planting.

The event, organized by Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Kenya Scouts Association (KSA), marked World Mangrove Day and aimed to promote mangrove conservation.

KFS trained 50 forest rangers as stewards to ensure each plant met Guinness World Records standards, with documentation via photos, videos, and witness testimonies.

Mangroves prevent coastline erosion, reduce storm surge impact, provide marine habitats, and act as effective natural carbon sinks.
