  1. Western Railway approved replacing decades-old hydraulic buffer stops at Churchgate and Mumbai Central stations with modern high-capacity systems.

  2. Four new buffer sets will be installed at dead-end platforms to absorb train impacts up to 15 kmph, based on RDSO November 2024 standards.

  3. Existing buffers at Churchgate and Mumbai Central were installed between 1906 and 1958 and are beyond economical repair.

  4. New buffers can safely arrest a loaded 1,300-tonne train at 15 kmph without structural damage, compatible with CBC and side-buffer rolling stock.

  5. The upgrade aims to improve passenger safety and protect trains and infrastructure at two of Mumbai's busiest terminals.
