Bengaluru Metro tragedy revives demand for platform screen doors

A person died by suicide at Huskur Road Metro station on Monday.

BMRCL operates Namma Metro with 96 km and 83 stations, with no immediate plans to install platform screen doors (PSDs) across the network.

BMRCL has installed steel barricades at high-footfall stations like Majestic, MG Road, Indiranagar, Benniganahalli, and RV Road.

From 2012 to 2025, four passengers died by suicide, 16 attempted suicide, 23 had unauthorised track entry, and seven accidentally fell onto tracks.

BMRCL proposed PSDs for 177 stations in the phase 3A DPR for the Hebbal-Sarjapur line, awaiting central approval.
