‘Inspired by Hollywood series The Staircase’, Delhi man allegedly kills wife: How the plot fell apart for him

Kamal Singh allegedly killed his 50-year-old wife Komal Singh at their Gagan Vihar residence in Delhi's Shahdara on July 30.

Singh told police he was influenced by the Hollywood series 'The Staircase' and believed disposing of the weapon would help him evade investigators.

The murder was over a long-standing family property dispute; Singh withdrew around ₹7 lakh from bank accounts before fleeing.

Police recovered a blood-stained pair of scissors from the house, suspected to be the murder weapon.

CCTV footage showed only the couple inside the house after their children left, and Singh was arrested near Mathura Railway Station.
