1,800-year-old Roman camp linked to Marcus Aurelius found in Slovakia

Archaeologists discovered an 1,800-year-old Roman military camp near Surany in southwestern Slovakia.

The camp may have been used by Emperor Marcus Aurelius' army during the Marcomannic Wars.

Skeletons of Roman soldiers were found in shallow graves, defensive ditches, and wells.

Artifacts uncovered include weapons, armour, coins, and military sandals.

The site is rare for being almost completely preserved and could offer new insights into Roman military campaigns.
