Gilgit-Baltistan assembly passes resolution amid PoK unrest
The Gilgit-Baltistan assembly passed a resolution urging Islamabad to grant the region provisional provincial status.
The resolution was backed by both ruling and opposition sides and was moved by lawmaker Jalal Ali Shah.
Gilgit-Baltistan currently has semi-provincial administrative status in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
If accepted, Gilgit-Baltistan would become Pakistan's fifth province, joining Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The resolution also sought constitutional and political rights for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
