Modi speaks to Qatar Amir, recalls legacy of his father

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to convey condolences on the passing of his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Amir of Qatar.

Modi recalled the Father Amir's contributions as the chief architect of modern Qatar and his role in strengthening India-Qatar relations.

India had declared a day of national mourning earlier in the week to honor the Father Amir's legacy.

Qatar is a key partner for India in the Gulf, hosting a large Indian diaspora and serving as a principal source of LNG.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the India-Qatar strategic partnership and people-to-people ties.
