Astrobase is building a reusable rocket engine and a launch vehicle in Bengaluru

Astrobase Space Technologies is developing a methane-liquid oxygen rocket engine with full-flow staged combustion, the same cycle as SpaceX's Raptor.

The company plans three vehicle configurations—fully expendable, partly reusable, and fully reusable—carrying 3–10 tonne payloads, with 3D-printed engine components.

IN-SPACe selected Astrobase for its Technology Adoption Fund in June 2026, backing an 800 kN reusable methane-oxygen engine for medium-to-heavy lift vehicles.

Founded in 2024 by Neeraj Khandelwal (CoinDCX co-founder) and former ISRO scientist Devakumar Thammisetty, the company raised ₹60 crore in its first institutional round in 2025.

Astrobase's engine aims for rapid turnaround and autonomous landing, positioning itself as complementary to ISRO rather than competing.
