Indo-Canadian ex-MP’s law licence likely to be restricted over illegal conduct

Former MP Rajvinder Singh Grewal faces possible suspension or restriction of his law licence by the Law Society of Ontario over allegations of illegal conduct and risk of public harm.

The Law Society Tribunal Hearing Division issued a notice seeking suspension or restriction based on reasonable grounds of significant risk to the public or the administration of justice.

Allegations include misappropriation of trust monies, participation in dishonesty or fraud, and failure to act with honour and integrity.

Law enforcement is investigating some of the claims, and another lawyer at Grewal's firm RSG Law, Davinder Singh Khattra, faces similar scrutiny.

Grewal previously resigned as MP in 2018 citing a gambling problem and personal debts, later rescinded but was ejected from the Liberal Caucus.
