Lucas Glover removed his shoes to retrieve his ball at the 3M Open after a rules official complained about spike marks on the greens.

Glover clarified he removed his shoes to prevent metal spike marks, not as a protest against the AimPoint green-reading system as speculated.

PGA Tour rules now allow players to tap down spike marks, a point Glover emphasized.

The greens at TPC Twin Cities were soft bent grass, which Glover said contribute to damage regardless of spike type.

Glover plans to continue wearing metal spikes at the Rocket Classic in Detroit.
