Family gets $350K after otter attack drags toddler underwater

A Washington family received $350,000 settlement from the Port of Bremerton after a river otter attack at Bremerton Marina on September 12, 2024.

The otter dragged a toddler off a dock into the water and bit the mother's arm during rescue; toddler was treated for scratches and bite wounds on head, face, and legs.

The family argued the port failed to address prior reports of otters as a nuisance; port denied receiving reports of aggressive otters.

Settlement includes 40% for attorney fees, remainder in trust paid through port's insurance.

After the attack, wildlife officers trapped and removed otters; one tested negative for rabies.
