Supreme Court steps in as Allahabad HC faults judiciary, NHRC in UP custodial death case

The Supreme Court has stayed proceedings before the Allahabad High Court in a long-pending PIL related to the alleged custodial death of a physically disabled man in Mainpuri in 2009.

The Allahabad High Court had ordered the CBI to recover missing video evidence, making sweeping observations against the judiciary, the NHRC, and the state police.

The Supreme Court issued notice on appeals by the Uttar Pradesh government and Ajay Kumar Mishra, then SSP Mainpuri, now IG Prayagraj Range.
