Taslima Nasrin returns to Kolkata after 19 years ahead of anti-fundamentalism event
Exiled Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasrin returned to Kolkata on July 31, 2026, her first visit since November 2007.
Nasrin arrived at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport for an anti-fundamentalism literary event at Rabindra Sadan on August 1.
The event is attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay.
Nasrin left Kolkata in 2007 amid violent protests linked to her writings; she had previously settled there in 2004 after leaving Bangladesh in 1994 over threats related to her novel Lajja.
