Independent candidates Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav, namesakes of Bihar's former chief ministers, lost their security deposits in the Bankipur assembly bypoll after securing 149 and 81 votes respectively.
They forfeited their deposits as per Election Commission rules because they failed to secure at least one-sixth of the total valid votes polled.
Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor won the Bankipur seat, defeating BJP's Neeraj Kumar by a margin of 19,324 votes.
The bypoll was held on July 30, with a turnout of 34.30% in the constituency of nearly 3.8 lakh voters.
