10 climbers, including Nirmal Purja, missing after avalanche on Broad Peak in PoK's Gilgit-Baltistan

Ten international climbers, including Nepal-born mountaineer Nirmal Purja, are missing after an avalanche struck Broad Peak in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The avalanche hit around midday Thursday on the 8,047-metre Broad Peak in the Karakoram range, according to the Alpine Club of Pakistan.

The missing team includes five Nepalese climbers, Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi, Omani climber Nathira, American climber Mallory Geis, a Chinese climber identified only as Wang, and another foreign climber.

A tracking device carried by Purja shows movement after the avalanche, offering hope, though authorities caution it does not confirm his condition.

Poor weather has delayed helicopter rescue operations; authorities planned to deploy helicopters Friday morning if conditions improved.
