in5points
Sardar Teja Singh Samundri was a founding figure of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and a leader in the Gurdwara Reform Movement.
Born in 1882 into a Sandhu Sikh family, he served in the British Indian Army before dedicating himself to Sikh principles and public duty.
He advocated for gurdwara reform, challenging colonial-backed hereditary mahants who misused resources, to ensure Sikh institutions were governed by the community.
During the Rakab Ganj Sahib agitation in Delhi, he resisted colonial demolition of a sacred site.
His legacy is commemorated on his 100th death anniversary as a martyr and architect of modern Sikh public life, embodying service, courage, and faith.
