High-tension lines still pass over 3,890 UP schools; nearly 2 lakh children at risk

,890 government primary and upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh have 11,000-volt high-tension power lines passing over their buildings, putting nearly 200,000 children at risk.

From 9,009 affected schools at the start of the financial year, the power department has removed lines from 5,119 schools, but 3,890 remain.

The issue gained attention after 55 students were injured on July 15, 2019, when a high-tension wire fell on a school in Balrampur district.

Prayagraj has the most affected schools (270), followed by Jaunpur (267), Basti (227), and other districts with over 100 such schools.

Basic education director Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi confirmed the figures, noting that some schools still have transformers and poles on campus.
