Six policemen injured in clash with villagers in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur: Cop

At least six police personnel were injured in Surajpur district, Chhattisgarh, after villagers attacked a police team attempting to arrest suspects in pending criminal cases.

Additional SP Yogesh Dewangan said the police had anticipated resistance and deployed a large contingent, but the opposition turned violent with stone-pelting and sticks.

Deputy superintendent of police Rajesh Joshi was among the injured; about 250 police personnel participated in the operation, with reinforcements from neighboring districts.

Police denied the operation was linked to a proposed coal mining project, stating it was solely to execute arrest warrants for pending cases.

One accused was apprehended, while others could not be traced; no survey team was present at the spot.
