ED arrests ex-Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission chairman in corruption linked to state service exam in 2020, 2021

ED arrested former CGPSC Chairman Taman Singh Sonwani in a money laundering case linked to corruption, paper leak, and exam manipulation in the 2020 and 2021 CGPSC State Service Examinations.

Investigation revealed Sonwani conspired to leak question papers and manipulate the selection process for fraudulent selection of his relatives and other favored candidates to senior posts like Deputy Collector and Deputy Superintendent of Police.

CGPSC recruitment rules were amended in 2021 to remove 'nephew' from the definition of 'family', facilitating selection of Sonwani's relatives.

Proceeds of crime were collected in cash and routed through layered banking transactions.

Sonwani was arrested under PMLA, 2002, and remanded to ED custody until July 30, 2026.
