5 Haryana government officials among 16 booked in ₹31-crore housing repair scam in Ambala

  1. The Haryana vigilance and anti-corruption bureau (ACB) booked 16 people, including five state government officials, for a ₹31.40 crore housing repair scam in Ambala.

  2. The FIR was registered on a complaint by inspector Rajesh Kumar, alleging officials and agents misused official positions to misappropriate funds meant for poor families.

  3. The scam occurred under the Dr BR Ambedkar Awas Navinikaran Yojana between 2018-19 and 2021-22, where grants for house repairs were given to ineligible beneficiaries.

  4. Investigations revealed that of 59 applications examined, only four were eligible; at least 55 ineligible beneficiaries received grants of ₹50,000-₹80,000, and six got it twice.

  5. Those booked include former and current district welfare officers, two former tehsil welfare officers, a deputy superintendent, nine agents, and two beneficiaries, under the Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC.
