Indo-Canadian Kamal Khera appointed Consul General in Los Angeles

Canada appointed former Minister of Health Kamal Khera as Consul General in Los Angeles.

Khera replaces Zaib Shaikh and will work to strengthen the Canada-US relationship amid CUSMA renegotiations.

Khera was first elected in 2015 from Brampton West and held portfolios under Prime Ministers Trudeau and Carney.

Khera lost her seat in the 2025 federal election but joined Team Canada in the US diplomatic post.

Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced four Consul General appointments, including Khera, for US posts.
