Centre: No proposal from Chandigarh for augmentation of judicial infra

The Centre told Parliament on Friday that it has received no proposal from Chandigarh for augmentation of judicial infrastructure at district courts.

Minister of state for law and justice Arjun Ram Meghwal said financial assistance under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for judiciary is provided to states/UTs, but Chandigarh has made no demand in the last five years.

The high court has sanctioned strength of 85 judges, 69 court halls, 64 residential units, and 131 chambers for lawyers.

District courts in Chandigarh have sanctioned strength of 30 judges, with 31 court rooms, 29 residential units, and 440 chambers for lawyers.

The high court and UT administration have started work on expanding the high court complex to create 40 more courts and other facilities.
