Sleepless nights, choked roads: Kanwariyas run rampant amid lack of enforcement in Delhi

Kanwar Yatra in Delhi since July 30 has caused noise pollution, choked roads, and traffic diversions, with residents complaining of loud music late at night.

Residents in areas like Greater Kailash, CR Park, Kalkaji, New Friends Colony, Nehru Place, and Lajpat Nagar are among the worst affected, with processions using routes like Mathura Road and Ring Road.

The Supreme Court bans loudspeakers after 10 pm, and CPCB rules limit noise in residential areas to 55dB(A) during day and 45dB(A) at night, but these are allegedly violated.

Despite violations, no complaints have been registered, and Delhi Police say they have held meetings on deploying staff at night to control boombox noise.

Processions entering from borders with Ghaziabad and Noida, as well as Mundka, Tikri Border, and Najafgarh, cause congestion in areas like Janakpuri, Dwarka, and Najafgarh.
