Suvendu unveils actor Uttam Kumar’s statue on death anniversary, announces birth centenary plans

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari unveiled a statue of actor Uttam Kumar at Keoratala crematorium in south Kolkata on his 47th death anniversary.

Adhikari announced the state government will celebrate Uttam Kumar's birth centenary with a four-day series of events starting from September 3.

The government will renovate and modernize 'Uttam Mancha' auditorium and set up a dedicated film centre for the actor.

All centenary programmes will be finalized in consultation with Uttam Kumar's family and representatives of the Bengali film industry.

Uttam Kumar received the National Film Award for Best Actor in 1967 for performances in 'Chiriakhana' and 'Antony Firingi'.
