The Supreme Court refused to entertain a plea against social media influencer Nazia Elahi Khan, calling it an attempt to “politicise” the issue.
The petition sought criminal proceedings against Khan for allegedly making blasphemous statements against Prophet Muhammad.
A bench of justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe questioned the petition’s maintainability under Article 32, citing existing remedies under criminal law and the IT Act.
The court noted the 2009 IT Rules provide statutory mechanisms for such grievances, and the petitioner could take recourse there instead.
The petitioner, advocate Md Anas Chaudhary, withdrew the plea after the court indicated it was not inclined to entertain the matter.
