Bengaluru monsoon UV risk highlighted in July

UV danger persists during monsoon and winter despite cloud cover; 80% of UV rays can penetrate clouds.

KIMS Hospitals and Ramaiah Memorial Hospital in Bengaluru report 5-10 weekly cases of UV-induced skin allergies during monsoon.

Symptoms include irritation, itching, redness on face, ears, neck, and forearms; chronic exposure can cause premature ageing and skin atrophy.

Dermatologists recommend safe daily sunlight exposure of a few minutes to prevent sudden allergies from long outdoor activities.

For protection, use sunscreen with SPF30 and PA+++ rating, full-sleeved clothing, broad-brimmed hat, and dark-colour umbrella.
