Expert panel suggests ₹802-crore plan to beat El Niño impact in Telangana

The Telangana government-constituted expert committee proposed a ₹802.92-crore contingency plan to mitigate El Niño impact.

The plan includes subsidies of 75–90% for drip and sprinkler irrigation systems to improve water-use efficiency.

The committee recommended promoting drought-tolerant crops such as pulses, oilseeds, millets, and vegetables, with quality seeds at 75% subsidy.

Establishment of fodder banks and cattle camps to aid livestock keepers, and efficient use of the Mission Bhagiratha drinking water network are also recommended.

The state recorded a 30% rainfall deficit as of July 27, with paddy transplantation at only 22.60% of normal area.
