Mohammad Amir's British citizenship creates PSL 2027 overseas-player puzzle

Mohammad Amir will be registered as an overseas player for PSL 2027 after gaining British citizenship, changing his status from local player.

Nottinghamshire signed Amir for the remainder of the 2026 Vitality Blast in June, confirming he does not count as an overseas player due to his British passport.

Amir represented Rawalpindiz in PSL 2026 after being bought for PKR 5.4 crore at the player auction, but his new overseas status creates uncertainty over his existing two-year contract.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has not clarified whether Rawalpindiz can retain Amir as an overseas player under his current contract or must release or renegotiate it.

Franchises can retain up to seven players for PSL 12, but teams are allowed between five and seven foreign players depending on squad size.
