Lt Gen Sanjay Kulkarni was commissioned into 4 KUMAON in September 1977 and served 39 years in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Sikkim, Rajasthan desert, and Arunachal Pradesh.

As a young captain, he occupied the Siachen Glacier on 13 April 1984 and was awarded the Shaurya Chakra for capturing Bilafondla Pass by jumping from a helicopter at 15,500 feet.

He commanded a Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Doda and Kishtwar districts of J&K, an Infantry Battalion in Tawang, and a Brigade and Division in Arunachal Pradesh opposite Chinese forces.

He retired as Director General of Infantry in 2016 and was appointed by Shri Parrikar to the Shekatkar Committee and for corporatisation of Ordnance Factories.

He is now associated with Chanakya Mandal run by Shri Avinash Dharmadhikari, IAS.
