FDA suspends BMC HQ canteen licence over food safety lapses

in5points
Maharashtra FDA suspended the Food Registration Certificate of Kamal Caterers Pvt Ltd, the contractor operating the BMC headquarters canteen.
All 31 food safety violations flagged during a June 8 inspection remained unrectified after a July 22 re-inspection.
Violations included fly infestation, poor hygiene, faulty temperature control, missing staff certificates, and lack of food safety audit records.
The suspension under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 prohibits the contractor from preparing or selling food until further orders.
Senior BMC officials privately questioned the decision, saying the deficiencies did not warrant suspension.
