Bengaluru woman loses Rs 45 lakh in sim swap fraud

A 28-year-old Bengaluru woman lost Rs 48.5 lakh after applying for a home loan on a fraudulent website in Oct 2025.

Fraudsters used personal details including PAN, Aadhaar, and selfie to later threaten her via WhatsApp calls from international numbers.

They falsely claimed loans were taken through apps Fibe, Tejas, and Rupee Redee, and demanded repayment via Repay App.

The victim transferred Rs 3.5 lakh under threat of obscene morphed photos being circulated, then changed her phone and SIM card in May 2026.

In July 2026, she discovered Rs 45 lakh in unauthorised transactions without any OTPs or SMS alerts, and was directed to cyber helpline 1930.
