Failure to seize phones in Pocso case: Allahabad HC orders inquiry against IO

Allahabad High Court ordered an inquiry against the investigating officer (IO) for failing to seize mobile phones in a Pocso case at Mungarabadshahpur police station, Jaunpur.

The court noted police negligence in not seizing phones despite allegations that obscene videos and photos of the victim were made using those devices.

Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal granted bail to accused Rohit Yadav, citing that no obscene videos or photos were recovered and a co-accused had already been bailed.

The court had previously directed Uttar Pradesh police chiefs to ensure IOs seize mobile phones in cases involving obscene content allegations.

The order was passed on July 23, 2026, during bail proceedings under the Bharaitya Nyaya Sanhita and Pocso Act.
