Ukraine dials India, seeks peace role amid ship attack concerns

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar discussed Black Sea shipping attacks with Ukraine Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

Jaishankar reiterated that attacks on commercial shipping and Indian seafarers are unacceptable and condemned unequivocally.

India had earlier summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to protest an attack that killed an Indian seafarer.

Sybiha briefed Jaishankar on President Zelenskyy's recent US visit and peace negotiations, encouraging India to play an active role.

Jaishankar highlighted that multiple conflicts affect fuel, fertilizer, and food security, especially for the Global South.
