Saudi Land Restoration: 159m trees planted and restored 1 million hectares of land

Saudi Arabia planted 159 million trees and restored one million hectares of degraded land under the Saudi Green Initiative since 2021.

The Saudi Green Initiative aims to rehabilitate 40 million hectares and plant 10 billion trees across the kingdom.

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification calls the achievement proof that large-scale land restoration is possible in water-scarce environments.

The restored land grew from 250,000 hectares by 2024 to one million hectares by early 2026, with a next target of 2.5 million hectares by 2030.
