Man throws infant daughter into underground water sump, held

A 28-year-old man, M Imran, was arrested for allegedly killing his infant daughter by throwing her into an underground water sump at his home in Chikkaballapur district.

The infant's body was recovered on Thursday after relatives drained the sump.

Police are examining whether the gender of the second child was a factor, as Imran allegedly hoped for a son and was unhappy the baby was a girl.

The alleged incident occurred during early Thursday hours while others were asleep; Imran initially denied involvement and joined the search.

A murder case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.
