UP Bar Council seeks list of advocates with pending cases

Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh ordered all bar associations to submit within 15 days a list of advocates with pending serious criminal cases, chargesheets, or trials.

The directive complies with an Allahabad High Court order of June 3, 2026 in the Mohd Kafeel vs State of UP case.

Non-compliance will result in cancellation of bar association affiliation and loss of welfare scheme benefits from the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh.

In June 2024, Lucknow's joint commissioner of police Upendra Agarwal submitted a report naming 112 lawyers linked to 149 complaints, including illegal land possession and threats.

The Bar Council of UP had formed its own committee to cross-examine the police-submitted list, amid High Court scrutiny of lawyers involved in property dealings.
